The idea for this quilt started all the way back to 1986 when I was 16 years old. At the time I was working in a fabric and craft store. I enjoyed counted cross stitch a lot also quilting. One day while at work we received a big bolt of cross stitch fabric and my idea came to me. I decided to put the two together and design my own big huge quilt that was counted cross stitch and my own design.

So I bought some of the fabric and sewed two pieces of the fabric together and then I started designing each of the quilt block on graph paper my father just happened to have.

At the time I was naive enough to think that I could get it done before I graduated from high school. Little did I realize that I would still be working on it over 20 years latter. I will more than likely to be working on it when I have grand children but that is ok it is the joy of creation with this project.

I made little progress on it until 1993 when I started working on it again. By that time I was married and expecting my first child. I taught my husband how to cross stitch and he has been helping me ever sense.

We have gone in spurts where we work a lot on it and when we don’t work at all on it. Every time we sit down now to work on it our children come along to help out. The older children are starting there own blocks were as the younger ones just pull the needle for us. This has become a true family project that we are all involved in.

When complete my cross stitch quilt will have a total of 225 blocks in it there will be 15 blocks in each row and 15 blocks in each column. Currently I have a total of 40 blocks complete (2 rows and 10 extra).

I hope to add a new quilt block to my website each month so keep checking www.quiltblockcrossstitch.com to see the updates or sign up for the monthly newsletter for sneak peeks. Or sign up for the monthly update available on my web site.

Check out all of the bocks.

Happy Cross Stitching
